Chateau Rouge Named to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Prestigious "The 76" List

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Chateau Rouge has been featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer's prestigious The 76, their annual celebration of the most vital restaurants in the Philadelphia area. This marks our debut on the list, and we couldn't be more honored to be recognized among the city's finest dining establishments.

What is The 76?

The 76—inspired by "1776," "I-76," and the "76ers"—represents the restaurants that collectively define Philadelphia's diverse and dynamic food scene. This year, eighteen members of The Inquirer's food team scouted, ate, and debated to arrive at this carefully curated list of the region's most essential places to eat. Out of hundreds of restaurants reviewed, only 76 made the cut, with 40 newcomers joining the ranks for 2025.

Our Recognition

The Inquirer describes Chateau Rouge as "a BYOB in Graduate Hospital that blends Cameroonian heritage with French technique in lively, soulful dishes." We're proud that our menu—featuring peppery suya wings, tender lamb skewers, grilled fish, and sides like plantains and rich stews—has resonated with both critics and diners alike.

The Inquirer noted that "the flavors are bold and expansive, carried by a warm hospitality from the staff," which reflects exactly what we set out to create: a space where the vibrant tastes of West Africa meet refined French culinary techniques, all served with the warmth and care that makes dining a truly memorable experience.

What This Means to Us

As a new and intimate African restaurant in Philadelphia, being named to The 76 is an incredible affirmation of our mission to share the rich culinary traditions of Cameroon with our community. Every dish we serve tells a story—of heritage, of technique, of the bold and beautiful flavors that define West African cuisine.

This recognition also speaks to Philadelphia's evolving food culture and its embrace of diverse culinary voices. We're honored to stand alongside both beloved institutions and innovative newcomers that make this city's restaurant scene so special.
